"Yoga 1 and Yoga 2 are extremely popular at North (Campus). There are two sections every period all day both semesters," Scott Eggerding, the school's director of curriculum, told the school board this week. "It's really kind of amazing."

Each class has about 25 students, officials said.

The school is looking to offer Yoga 1 for the first time next year at South Campus.

"I think we need to be sponsored by Lululemon," Eggerding joked, referring to the company known for its yoga pants.

Students get one hour of college credit for Yoga 1 and Yoga 2. The school is trying to arrange for such credit for Yoga 3, Eggerding said.

Other area high schools do not offer courses focused on yoga, though yoga is a component of other courses. Those schools include Riverside-Brookfield, Hinsdale Central and South, and Downers Grove South and North.

York High School now offers two types of yoga courses.

At Lyons Township High, the school board is set to vote on Yoga 3 later this month.

Yoga 3 is among several course proposals for next school year.
