Calling herself a "biliterate Latina," she has volunteered for local civic groups.

She has served as the president of La Grange Highlands District 106's Parent Teacher Council. She also has been on the board of the La Grange Business Association, vice president of the La Grange Highlands Civics Association and a member of the planning team for the Building Inclusive Communities Conference.
In her application, Giannoti Frye said she wanted to continue the focus on efforts improving access, equity and inclusion for all students.
"As a bilingual, bicultural and biliterate Latina, I also hope to be beneficial in informing the work with the Board and the LTHS community," she said.
She has two children, one of whom is an adult, according to her application.
In a statement, board President Jill Grech said the board was "grateful to have had so many qualified individuals respond with willingness to serve."
Grech said the board looks forward to the experiences, talents and perspectives that Giannotti Frye will bring to the table.
The board chose to conduct interviews behind closed doors, which is allowed under Illinois law. In other states, interviews for prospective board members must be held in public.
