In the last month four Nazareth Students have received academic recognition in the 60th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Results are based on scores earned by more than 1.5 million students from across the nation who took the 2013 Preliminary SAT/NMS Qualifying test.
John Bonaguro of Clarendon Hills has been named a National Merit Scholarship (NMS) Semifinalist. He is among the top 1% of U.S. high school seniors, including the highest-scoring entrants in each state. Of the approximately 16,000 Semifinalists, about 15,000 are expected to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million that will be offered next spring.
Adeline Doyle (Western Springs), Meghan Sullivan (Stickney) and Charles Swarts (Westchester) have been named Commended Scholars. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2015 competition for NMSC awards, Commended Students placed among the top 5% of students who took the 2013 PSAT.
