Citizens Police Academy Starts Next Month

Applications are available via the city of Lake Forest website.

The Lake Forest Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy course will be offered at the Public Safety Building, 255 W. Deerpath, from 7-10 p.m. on Wednesday evenings, beginning October 7, for ten weeks. There is no charge to take the class.

The program is designed to promote and enhance citizen understanding and awareness of the role of the Lake Forest Police Department within our community. The objective of the course is not to prepare graduates to become police officers, but instead to instill in citizens a greater general knowledge of the many functions of the police in our community.

More than 20 topics are covered in the class including the hiring and training of officers, patrol operations, DUI and traffic enforcement, administration of the department, investigations and youth, crime prevention and much more. In addition, students have the option of riding with an officer on patrol and firing department issued handguns and rifles in our indoor range.
