Deer Path Visits Ancient Egypt

Middle school has fair planed Nov. 18 to enhance social studies classes.

Deer Path Middle School will hold an Egyptian Culture Fair for students in grade 5 on Tuesday, Nov. 18. The Fair enhances and enriches the 5th grade social studies curriculum with programs and cultural activities.

The day will start with an all grade assembly from 9:40-10:40 am with “Songs and Stories Of Ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt.” Storyteller Judith Heineman and musician Daniel Marcotte will entertain the students as they explain through humor, stories and song how tales like Star Wars and Harry Potter got their start.

Students will learn how the world’s first literature was inscribed on clay tablets, discover Gilgamesh – the world’s first superhero, and be spellbound by ancient tales of quests, magic, monsters, and more.

From 12:00 pm until 1:05 pm, students will visit two stations (each lasting 30 minutes).

One will allow student to learn about ancient Egyptian games and then have an opportunity to play the games. In the other station, students will learn about Dress and Accessories of the Period.

Students will be given the opportunity to try on accessories and fashions, and to make jewelry similar to what would have been worn during that period.
