Felony Charge For Texas Man With Warrant; DUI 911 Calls: Blotter

Incidents and arrests from the Lake Forest Police Department blotter from Nov. 9 to Nov. 19

LAKE FOREST, IL — The following information comes from the Lake Forest Police Department and court records as a record of those arrested by police. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges, which represent merely accusations by the state, are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Circuit Clerk of Courts. All persons named are innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

ARRESTS

David I. Berry, 49, of the 7400 block of South Shore Drive in Chicago, was arrested around 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 4 following a traffic stop in the area of Route 41 and Westleigh Road. While speaking with him about the reasons he was pulled over, officers noticed the car was had extensive dents and scraping and the driver smelled of alcohol and appeared to be impaired. He was subsequently arrested and produced a breath sample indicating a blood alcohol concentration of nearly twice the legal limit. He was charged with DUI – alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater and driving with a suspended license. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage and improper traffic lane usage.

A 23-year-old Rosemont man was arrested around 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 8 in the area of Deerpath and King Muir roads and charged with driving with a suspended license and operating an uninsured vehicle after police pulled over a blue Chevy SUV because they noticed the driver texting on his phone while driving.

Juan R. Garibay, 45, of the 700 block of South Green Bay Road in Waukegan was arrested around 7:45 a.m. on Nov. 10 in the area of Route 41 and Old Elm Road following a traffic stop. Officers determined his Texas driver's license was suspended and he was wanted on a Lake County warrant for failing to appear in court. Officers learned he had a previous DUI arrest and multiple arrests for driving with a suspended license. Prosecutors approved a charge of felony driving with a revoked license and Garibay was held overnight for transport to bond court.

Willie J. Barnes, 33, of the 2800 block of Grandville Avenue in Waukegan, was arrested around 4:30 a.m. on Nov. 11 following a traffic stop in the area of Route 41 and Route 176. Police got a call about a black Chevy driving all over the road, located the car and pulled it over. Following some field sobriety tests, officers determined Barnes was impaired. He produced a breath sample at the station indicating a blood alcohol concentration nearly 0.14. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08. He was also issued a citation for improper traffic lane usage.

A 24-year-old Lake Forest man was arrested around 5:15 p.m. on Nov. 13 following a traffic stop near the intersection of Old Elm Road and Harlan Court after police noticed him use a cell phone while driving. Officers smelled marijuana in the car and issued him citations for illegal possession of a small amount cannabis and use of an electronic device while driving.

A 30-year-old Gurnee woman was arrested around 1 a.m. on Nov. 14 after a officers noticed a red Chevy van driving with expired plates in the area of Route 41 and Deerpath Road. Inside, they found several children under 8 years old who were not secured in child safety seats and determined the driver lacked a license and insurance. She was arrested and charged with no driver's license, no valid vehicle insurance and expired registration and ticketed for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol due to a half-full bottle of vodka found in the driver's side door. An adult passenger and the children were taken to the station where they were picked up.

An 18-year-old Kenosha, Wisconsin, man was arrested around 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 18 and charged with no driver's license after police pulled him over in a gray Volkswagen after noticing him driving erratically while attempting to evade police who were patrolling behind him. Officers spoke to both occupants of the car and learned the driver's license had been suspended. A 16-year-old passenger made suicidal statements to police, so she was taken to Lake Forest Hospital and turned over to her grandparent.
