Career Information Sessions Offered in January
Information sessions on how to prepare for careers in business and nanoscience will be offered by the College of Lake County in January prior to the start of spring semester. CLC faculty and staff will present information on career outlook and salaries as well as the educational preparation (associate degrees and certificates) available at CLC.
Registration is not required to attend an information session. Schedule information is subject to change; before attending an info session, confirm the time, date and location by checking the CLC website at www.clcillinois.edufor any changes. The following academic programs will present information sessions; locations are on the CLC Grayslake Campus, 19351 W. Washington St., unless noted:
- Business Administration/Management on Monday, Jan. 10 from 1-2 p.m. in room T130
- Administrative Office Systems on Tuesday, Jan. 11 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in room T215
- Computer Information Technology on Wednesday, Jan. 12 from 6-6:50 p.m. in room T220
- Hospitality and Culinary Management on Wednesday, Jan. 12 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Lake County High Schools Technology Campus, HST 111
- Paralegal Studies on Thursday, Jan. 13 from 7-8 p.m. in room T220 and Saturday, Jan. 15 from 9-10 a.m. in room T220
- Nanoscience Technology on Wednesday, Jan. 12 from 5:30-7 p.m. in room R102, Southlake Campus (1120 S. Milwaukee Ave., Vernon Hills) and Thursday, Jan.13 from 3:30-5 p.m. in room T130, Grayslake Campus.

Continuing Professional Development Courses Available for Realtors
This spring, Illinois is significantly changing the necessary prerequisites to qualify for real estate salesperson and broker licensure.

The changes include moving from the designation of salesperson to broker and from broker to managing broker and increasing the number of hours of coursework significantly. Under the new licensure law, a broker license will require 90 hours of coursework and managing broker will require 165 hour of coursework. The new coursework requirements to obtain licensure go into effect in March 2011.
Continuing Professional Development at the College of Lake County is offering several training options to comply with the present and new licensure requirements.
CPD will offer Real Estate Transactions to prepare new salespersons for licensure beginning on Jan. 20. CPD also offers a home study version of this class, which starts Jan. 18.
For active real estate salesperson or those with a broker's licenses, CPD will offer a variety of courses in 2011 to help individuals successfully transition to the new state licensing requirements. The following courses will be offered during the first quarter of 2011:
Real Estate Transactions: Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 20 through Feb. 8 from 5:30-10 p.m. This course fulfills the pre-exam requirements for a salesperson license. Cost: $325. A textbook is required; it may be purchased at the CLC bookstore prior to class.
Contracts and Conveyancing: Tuesday, Thursday (5:30-10 p.m.) and Saturday (8 a.m. to 2 p.m.) Feb. 10-15. This course prepares students for a career as a real estate broker. Successful completion fulfills one of five parts of the State of Illinois requirement to obtain a Real Estate Broker's License. Cost: $115. A textbook is required.
Advanced Principles of Real Estate: Tuesday, Thursday (5:30-10 p.m.) and Saturday (8 a.m. to 2 p.m.) Feb. 17-22. The course reviews MLS, advertising, bookkeeping and more. Successful completion fulfills one of five parts of the State of Illinois requirement to obtain a Real Estate Broker's License. Cost: $115. A textbook is required.
Real Estate Finances: Tuesday, Thursday (5:30-10 p.m.) and Saturday (8 a.m. to 2 p.m.) Feb. 24 to March 1. This course examines mortgages, articles of agreement, property evaluations and more. Successful completion fulfills one of five parts of the State of Illinois requirement to obtain a Real Estate Broker's License. Cost: $115. A textbook is required.
Property Management: Tuesday, Thursday (5:30-10 p.m.) and Saturday (8 a.m. to 2 p.m.) March 3–8. This course covers legal aspects relating to property ownership. Successful completion fulfills one of five parts of the State of Illinois requirement to obtain a Real Estate Broker's License. Cost: $115. A textbook is required.
Broker Administration, offered Tuesday, Thursday (5:30-10 p.m.) and Saturday (8 a.m. to 2 p.m.) March 10-15, reviews ethics, management skills, and record keeping. Successful completion of this course fulfills one of five parts of the State of Illinois requirement to obtain a Real Estate Broker's License. Cost: $115. A textbook is required.
All Illinois home inspectors must be licensed. Home Inspection, offered Mondays and Wednesdays, Feb. 28 through April 27 from 6-10 p.m., is a pre-licensing course approved by the Department of Banks and Real Estate and covers the major elements of home inspection. It is designed to prepare you to take the Illinois state licensing exam. Cost: $695.
All Real Estate and Home Inspection courses are offered at the Southlake campus in Vernon Hills. Many courses are also available as a home study. The Continuing Professional Development department of CLC's Workforce and Professional Development Institute (WPDI) also offers courses in computers, project management, Lean Six Sigma, hospitality, grant writing skills, security officer basic, highway flagger, strategic sales, human resources, Spanish interpreter, real estate, teacher education and event planning.
