High Lead Levels Found in Water at School of St. Mary

The Lake Forest catholic school was one of 56 in the Archdiocese of Chicago to have water sources with an unsafe lead level.

LAKE FOREST, IL - Two water outlets at the School of St. Mary in Lake Forest were found to have lead levels above the Environmental Protection Agency’s action level of 15 ppb and have been deemed unsafe.

The two water sources affected at the School of St. Mary are both sinks.

In all, 56 Chicago-area Catholic elementary and high schools have lead levels considered unsafe by federal regulations. The Archdiocese of Chicago tested lead levels at water fountains at all of its 180 schools.

Of those schools, 18 of the 56 that were found to have high levels are located within the city of Chicago while the remaining were located in the suburbs of Lake and Cook counties.

Action will be taken to remedy the situation at the School of St. Mary and the others that showed high levels.
