Lake Bluff Middle Schoolers Medal At Science Olympiad

LBMS students bring home five medals from regional science competition.

DES PLAINES, IL — Students from 14 middle schools were on hand Saturday for the regional round of the Science Olympiad, a nationwide science tournament. Lake Bluff Middle School sent 11 students to Oakton Community College for the competition. They brought back medals in five of the 23 events.

“We are so proud of our students,” said LBMS math teacher and team coordinator Joe Jakcsy. “They faced a very competitive field of teams, and performed so well even in the face of unexpected challenges.”

  • Invasive Species: Emily Cheng & Skyler Kruenen - 1st place
  • Food Science: Sam Shen - 3rd place
  • Anatomy & Physiology: Emily Cheng & Skyler Kruenen - 6th place
  • Meteorology: Andrew White & Gregor White - 6th place
  • Scrambler: Emily Cheng & Skyler Kruenen - 6th place

Other team members who competed at the regional competition include: Avina Burns, Lachlan Kruenen, Gregor Sharp, Macartan Summerville, Mikey Taylor, Adam Tjarksen.

“Once again, Lake Bluff students have represented their school and the community with persistence, creativity and knowledge,” said superintendent Jean Sophie.
