Lake Forest Construction Alert: Western Avenue Closed

Road work on Western between Franklin and Laurel is set to be complete by Tuesday.

LAKE FOREST, IL — Western Avenue between Laurel Avenue and Franklin Place will be closed to all vehicles starting Thursday, Oct. 5, the City of Lake Forest announced. Focus Development advised the city that the closure is necessary for safety reasons. Western Avenue is set to be re-opened by the end of the day Wednesday, Oct. 11, weather permitting. Safe pedestrian access in the area will be maintained, according to the city.

The following road work is scheduled to take place during the closure:

  • New storm sewer frames and lids will be installed in the center of the road
  • Trenches for new storm sewer pipes will be dug
  • The sidewalks and curbs will be completed
  • Streetlights will be installed on the east and west sides of the street
  • The sidewalk and curb concrete will cure during this time
  • A final lift of asphalt will be applied to Western Avenue
  • Landscaping will get underway
