District 67 Announces Staffing Adjustments Due to Declining Enrollment

Changes to come in music, art and language departments in District 67.

Due to declining enrollment, staff changes were made at Lake Forest School District 67 this week. The board of education voted unanimously Tuesday to honorably reduce three non tenured full-time teachers to part time and honorably dismiss three current part-time non tenured teachers.

Since 2006, enrollment has declined by approximately 430 students.

All of the layoffs were in the music, art and language departments.

Assistant Superintendent Lori Wilcox said the art and language programs would not change in structure.

“We feel strongly about maintaining them as is,” she said. “There will be no change to minutes or programming.”

The foreign language department is expected to see the biggest change, with French and Latin being eliminated at the lower schools.

CORRECTION - An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated six teachers would be laid off. In fact, three non tenured full-time teachers will be offered less time and another three part-time non tenured teachers will be honorable dismissed. Patch regrets the error.
