LFCDS' Leo Rudberg '08: Inspiring Students through Tech Education
On Giving Tuesday, we honor those who give back all year.

Lake Forest Country Day School alumni are the products of an early educational emphasis on strong character and responsible citizenship. On this Giving Tuesday, we commend all of our alumni who have gone on to fulfill various volunteer and community service roles at home and abroad. LFCDS alumni have a vested interest in helping others and are making memorable impacts on people's lives. Below is one such example of a young alumnus who has recently graduated from LFCDS and is already making inroads as a
leader in the innovation industry through his outreach and service.
Leo Rudberg ’08 currently works on the Cloud Build Team at Google in New York. Before landing a job at Google, Leo graduated from the Honors Program at UW-Madison with undergraduate degrees in mathematics and computer sciences. When he finds some rare free time away from work, Leo pays it forward and gives back to his community by spreading his tech knowledge and career advice to aspiring students in the New York area.
Leo is currently involved in a service program through CUNY (City Universities of New York) where tech professionals, including Google employees, engage in several “Hackathons” with current college students across the New York area. The “Hackathon” is an event where programmers, designers, and others get together to develop an app, a demo, or a unique project or business idea over the course of a weekend in a highly creative and collaborative environment.

At previous CUNY Hackathons, Leo has volunteered by giving workshop talks to students on Angular and Golang, two modern technologies used at Google that students otherwise would not have such in-depth exposure to learning. During these workshops, Leo works directly with students to help them solve technical problems, such as installing tools or debugging code, and also offers his advice on how students can find their
passion in the tech world and navigate the job market after college.
Leo mentions, “I am proud to volunteer for the CUNY Hackathon because of the students' determination and
passion. Although many are first-time hackers and novice programmers, they collaborate well, make cool things, and are excited to learn. It is especially awesome to see the pluralism of the event, where many students are either first-generation Americans, are immigrants themselves, or come from otherwise
non-traditional/less-privileged college backgrounds.”
