Residents Concerned About Development's Impact on Heritage Tree

The iconic Heritage Tree at Laurel and Western could be in trouble if new development is built.

The iconic Heritage Tree that has stood at a site near East Laurel and North Western Avenues in Lake Forest for more than 250 years could be in trouble, some residents say.

The tree stands on a site that is being proposed as a residential development, according to the Lake Forester.

Lake Forest resident Philip “Bud” Davis says the recent demolition of the Municipal Service Building that stood nearby could have had an affect on the tree’s root structure.

Bill McFadden, president of the Ashbury Woods Condo Association, says the root damage could get even worse once construction on the new development begins.

“We are concerned about soil compaction and construction damage to the root zone, which could eventually kill the tree,” he said.
