'Pizzas 4 Patriots': Veteran's Group Sends Pizza to Troops for Super Bowl Sunday
Operation Pizza Bowl: Non-profit sends 'enough pizza to feed every U.S. soldier stationed in Afghanistan'

ELK GROVE, IL — Local non-profit Pizzas4Patriots shipped 5,000 pizzas to U.S. troops serving in Afghanistan to arrive in time for Super Bowl Sunday, according to DHL Express.
It's been more than nine years since the Ret. USAF Master Sergeant Mark Evans and his group of volunteers have sent Chicago-style pizza to troops serving overseas for every 4th of July and Super Bowl Sunday.
Since then, it's shipped more than 160,000 pizzas, including enough this year to feed every U.S. soldier stationed in Afghanistan, the group said.

"Having served overseas, I personally know that having a taste of home on Super Bowl Sunday is a powerful experience for troops stationed abroad,” Evans said.
Pizzas4Patriots' goal is to bring a bit of the flavor of home to troops to demonstrate they are supported by the population of the country they serve.

Weather in Afghanistan this year may slow down delivery to forces in the more remote parts of the country, but Evans plans on sending a second shipment immediately following the Super Bowl, according to the Associated Press.
