Waukegan Man Killed Girl For Spilling Juice On Xbox: Report

Skylar Mendez was beaten on Dec. 13. The 19-year-old accused of killing her reportedly did so because she spilled juice on an Xbox.

WAUKEGAN, IL — The 19-year-old Waukegan man charged with murder in the killing of his girlfriend's 4-year-old daughter allegedly beat the child as punishment because she had spilled juice on an Xbox gaming console. The Lake County News-Sun reported the new details, citing Assistant State’s Attorney Steve Scheller.

Prosecutors will reportedly seek a natural life sentence for Johnathan Fair, who remains jailed in Lake County with bail set at $5 million. He is scheduled to be arraigned next month in the Dec. 13 beating death of Skylar Mendez, who he had been babysitting.

Fair took the child to a hospital and allegedly said she had fallen and hit her head. He later acknowledged to police he shook her "really hard" and beat her as punishment. Prosecutors say the girl was also kicked down a hallway and at one point passed out. She died a few days later at a hospital.
