A possible loophole in the state's gambling law that could allow business owners with "shaky backgrounds" was one of the main reasons why the Barrington village board decided Monday to retain its ban on video gambling, according to the Daily Herald.
Many trustees said they could look into allowing gambling in Barrington in the future if changes were made to the law and if several businesses pushed for video gambling, according to the article.
Video gaming went live about a year ago in Illinois and hundreds of video gaming terminals are now up and running in restaurants and businesses throughout the suburbs.
While some municipalities have allowed video gaming, others, such as Barrington, have not. Over 80 communities in the Chicago suburbs offered video gaming as of August 2013, according to data gathered by Patch.com from the state of Illinois Video Gaming Board website.
