Bottom of the Ballot: 9 Unsuccessful Presidential Candidates from Illinois

Depending on how one defines “from,” Illinois can claim several presidents in its history: Barack Obama, Ronald Reagan, Ulysses S. Grant and Abraham Lincoln. But there are many others who tried to be included on that list and fell short, some of whom have been lost to history more easily than others.

Some Illinoisans also made their bids for the White House as vice presidential candidates, though not all of them made it either.

Here are nine presidential candidates from Illinois who didn’t make the cut.
