Crystal Lake Cop Shoots, Wounds Man With Knife (Video)

The suspect is accused of charging at an officer early Monday morning. The man allegedly fled after a domestic battery incident earlier.

A man in his late 20s was shot and injured by a Crystal Lake police officer overnight Sunday when the suspect allegedly charged the officer, according to a Chicago Tribune report.

The man, who was not identified, was hit at least once by the officer’s shots, and he was treated at Centegra Hospital, the report stated. The man was reported to be in critical condition, according to a WGN-TV report.

The officer was put on administrative leave after the shooting, which is standard procedure after shootings, the report stated.

Police responded at about 11:10 p.m. Sunday, June 21, to a domestic battery call in the 300 block of West Terra Cotta Avenue, the report stated. The suspect is accused of attacking a female family member with a knife and wounding her face before fleeing, the report added.

Police eventually caught up with the man at about 1:35 a.m. Monday, June 22, in the 800 block of Boxwood Driver, the report stated. At the scene, the man brandished his knife and charged the officer, who then shot him, the report added.

The case is being investigated the state police, the report stated.
