The General Assembly this week passed nine Illinois budget bills that spend an estimated $4 billion more than what the state is expected to collect in tax revenue during fiscal year 2016, which begins July 1.
Votes were largely split across party lines, with Republicans in both the House and Senate voting against all nine bills that were pushed through the Legislature by House Speaker Michael Madigan.
