On Tuesday, July 14, 2015, the Lake County Board issued a resolution recognizing the 25th anniversary of Americans with Disabilities Act.

The Resolution states that the Board of Lake County acknowledges July 26, 2015 as Americans with Disabilities Act Awareness Day. The resolution also calls upon the citizens of Lake County to formally acknowledge the importance and significance of the Act and the accomplishments it has brought forth.

The resolution acknowledges the numerous community organizations and agencies that provide resources to people with disabilities, their families and caregivers and promote equal opportunity, economic power, and independent living.

The County Board commends these agencies and organizations, including the Lake County Center for Independent Living, for their work with residents, families and the public to bring forth the promise of hope and freedom that is envisioned by the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Lake County Center for Independent Living provides all services free of charge to people with disabilities who reside in Lake and McHenry counties. Some services include: independent living skills training, information & referral, individual or community advocacy, employment readiness training, youth services, and more.

LCCIL celebrates its 25th anniversary with the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Signed by President George Bush in 1990, the ADA requires equal access for people with disabilities. LCCIL works directly with consumers as well as on a systemic level to ensure equal access is realized, as prescribed by the ADA.
