Libertyville Woman Helps Raise Money For Guides in Nepal
Alexandra Gaulin survived the country's terrible earthquake last month and is working to help survivors.
A Libertyville woman is trying to help guides in Nepal after she and her photography group escaped the country’s devastating earthquake last month, according to a Daily Herald report.
Alexandra Gaulin, an employee at Lake County Animal Control, has started a GoFundMe page to raise money for medicine, bandages, tents, gloves, water filters and other supplies, the report stated. The page has raised almost $500 in donations in the first four days it’s been up.
“The easiest way for us to collect donations at this time is to raise the necessary funds to do a supply run,” Gaulin, 23, wrote on the GoFundMe page. “Certain relief organizations are not getting through fast enough and we want to make sure our efforts are received efficiently. Once the supply run is made, we will personally be shipping these items to our friends on the ground in Nepal. They were our travel guides throughout the duration of our expedition, who you must know are the kindest, most selfless people in great need of relief.”

Gaulin was sitting on a plane in the Kathmandu airport after a two-week photography visit to Nepal when the quake struck, the report stated. The earthquake’s death toll is more than 7,000.
