The Meaning Behind the VP Business Showcase Event

Small business is what our country is built upon. This event is meant to celebrate those who live and work in and around our town.

I’ve always been a small business fan. My father, mother, aunts and uncles all owned small businesses since I was little girl. I witnessed amazing people (who I was blessed to call family) take a thought-a dream-and make it into something of their own, a reality.

I remember watching my Aunt in her kitchen at the age of seven; my little cousin was on one arm and she had a phone up to her ear - she was negotiating a business deal, in her kitchen! Over the last 30 years she has built an extremely successful business based on the North Shore. And that’s just one example...

There’s a certain beauty in being able to make something that started out as just a little twinkle in your eye and an idea in your mind, into something that has an impact, that reaches people, that helps people…that provides them with the goods and services that hopefully make their lives better.

I started my own business more than 10 years ago. I was a young(er) woman living in the big city of Chicago. I had a dream, too..... I’ll digress for a minute…it actually started back in high school when I was a cheerleader. What I loved most was rooting for my team-to win.

I do the same now with the companies that I work with. I want then to win; they are employed (and owned) by good and hard working people, who are providing for their families, contributing to our local economy, and employing people you likely know…or at the very least, know through someone who knows someone you know.(!)

The VP Business Showcase is an opportunity for my company, Vicarious Productions, which specializes in marketing, public relations and events, to put a spotlight on these businesses. They deserve it. They work hard, day in and out…many with smaller marketing budgets. And that doesn’t make mention of our four participating non-profits, who work will even less, and are helping people in times of need-also, your friends and neighbors.

You could win some pretty amazing prizes just for attending, including a 5-day stay in Cancun, 2-days in Door County (Cancun and Door County prize winners need to be present at 7:30pm!), Swarovski crystal earrings, restaurant gift certificates, a wine tasting for 30, a spirit tasting and tour for 10 at a local distillery, spa and salon pampering gift baskets, and a number of others!

I encourage you to come out to this FREE event, and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine and hors d’oeuvres, visit our Showcase vendors, learn about them, and determine if the services or products they provide, would benefit you. You will also learn about the non-profits that serve our area, too.

Shop and support local. Forget the big boxes, conglomerates, and others who unfortunately put small businesses out of business many times. Support those who are simply working to make it work.....

This is personal, and local, and if you live in Palatine, Arlington Heights, Lake Zurich and the surrounding areas, you should be there!

Join us on Thursday, February 12, 2015 from 5:30pm until 8 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express-Palatine/N. Arlington Heights on the 2nd floor in the Bronze Ballroom.

We will look forward to seeing you!
