You know that feeling you get when you’re driving a little too fast and then zoom past a hidden police car? Your first reaction probably is to hit the brakes, utter some form of a four-letter word and then stare into your rear-view mirror hoping you don’t see any flashing lights.

Of course, it doesn’t always work out that way, and then you’re left with at least a $120 ticket, possibly a court date, and a ruined day.

But depending on where you live in Illinois, the hike you’ll see on your annual car insurance premium can vary quite a bit -- and the increase sticks around for five, long years.
