Until recently, I was a corporate executive who had to leave my two sweet and affectionate Cavalier King Charles spaniel, Bentley, and Havanese, Buddy) when I did long commutes. This picture shows how they sat on the stairs watching me in the kitchen before I left for work. I felt so badly leaving them alone all day -- my separation anxiety was as bad, or worse, than theirs.
This is one of the reasons I just started a pet sitting service...TLCaregivers LLC (www.tlcaregivers.net). I stop in during the day for play time, walks or helping with crate training for housebreaking when little ones can't hold it all day.
One thing that worked for me was to put some peanut butter in those rubber Kongs when I left for work to distract them when I was leaving home. It may have helped their separation anxiety, but unfortunately, it didn't help mine!
