Thomas R. Holub

Funeral services for Thomas R. Holub are scheduled for Thursday, May 31.

 

     Thomas R. Holub, 57, of Lake Zurich; beloved husband of Mary Christina Holub (nee: McPartlan); loving father of Kelsey, James , and Michael Holub; fond brother of Gary (Jennifer) Holub, Diane Holub,  Douglas (Raeann) Holub; dear son of the late, Fred H. and Jeanette M. (nee Radtke) Holub; also surviving many nieces and nephews and cousins.

     Tom was born March 9, 1955 in Oak Park, IL, and grew up in Arlington Heights.  He graduated Arlington High School, Arlington Heights, in 1973 where he lettered in Cross Country and Track, graduated Valparaiso University in 1977 with a BA in English.  He attended Southern Illinois University Graduate School and taught English at Belvidere High School, Belvidere, IL.  He also earned an ITT certification from Loyola University in Chicago.

     Tom worked at Stone Container, Chicago, Tenneco, Bannockburn; and most recently at CVS/Caremark.

     Growing up, Tom was very active in sports, school and Boy Scouts, Troup 32, earning Eagle Scout and Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow.  He was a good swimmer, certified Red Cross Water Safety Instructor,  and worked at Camp Napawon, Wild Rose, Wis., over several summers during his high school and college years.  Tom was actively involved with Indian Princesses, Indian Guides, Boy Scouts (Troup 78), and coaching youth soccer, baseball and basketball.  At heart, Tom was a teacher; he loved to pass on his knowledge and love for the activity and discipline in a caring and gentle manner.  He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, canoeing, cross-country skiing, fishing, going to the beach, bicycling, swimming (i.e. the “typical Holub Family vacation!”).  Tom enjoyed going to plays and concerts; he was an avid reader and could always be convinced to recite his favorite limerick.  Tom also Qualified for State of Illinois in the 1-mile his senior year of high school. He ran multiple marathons (1984-1996), including the Chicago Marathon (multiple times) and the Boston Marathon (1994).

     Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday at Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 415 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich. 

     The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Peace Lutheran Church 1050 S. Old Rand Road; where he will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.  The interment will be private.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
