Young Girls Have Big Hearts In Helping Senior Animals

Logan Fritsch, Brynn Emery, and Alex Koss recently earned the highest award available in Girl Scouts, the Bronze award, by raising money and making blankets, pillows, and cat toys and donating them to Young at Heart Senior Pet Adoptions.

The girls wanted to help older pets and to meet the award requirements the girls

• Created a presentation about the importance of adopting older pets that was shown to local 4th -6th grade classrooms
• Made and sold cookies and used the profits to purchase fleece
• Made blankets, toys, and pillows for dogs and cats
• Delivered their donations to the Young at Heart cat center located inside the Lake Zurich, IL Petco.

The girls enjoyed their time getting to know the cats and learning about Young at Heart. They were able to present a blanket to a newly adopted cat during their visit.

Young at Heart is Chicagoland’s ONLY rescue dedicated exclusively to senior dogs and cats. It is a non-profit 501c3 volunteer-based organization that operates with a small army of dedicated volunteers. Dogs are housed in licensed foster homes, and the cats reside in a cageless adoption area donated by Best Friends Pet Care or inside Lake Zurich Petco’s cat adoption center.   They rely solely on the generosity of pet-lovers, fundraisers, and grants to support our mission and our rescued animals.

The core mission is to find a new home for every animal that comes through their door, educate the public on the benefits of adopting older pets, and decrease the euthanasia rate for older, adoptable dogs and cats in Illinois.
