2 Troopers Hurt By DUI Driver: State Police

The driver and the two troopers were taken to the hospital and have been released.

LEMONT, IL — Two Illinois State Police troopers were injured by a drunk driver on Thursday evening, state police said. Desmond Glee, 47, of Romeoville, has been charged with aggravated DUI after crashing into two state police squad cars, which resulted in injuries to two troopers.

At 6:58 p.m., Jan. 24, a District 15 trooper was inside his squad car investigating a crash on the I-355 southbound ramp to I-55 southbound when he was struck from behind. Glee's vehicle fled the crash scene and continued southbound onto I-55 where he struck a District 5 trooper inside his squad car, according to state police.

The officer had his emergency lights activated and flares behind the squad. State police said the trooper had been assisting a disabled vehicle in the roadway on I-55 southbound at Route 53.

Illinois State Police would like to remind the public of Scott’s Law, which requires vehicles to slow down, move over, and change lanes if possible, when they are approaching an emergency vehicle,
or any vehicle with its hazard lights activated.

“This is the fourth trooper just this year to be harmed including one who lost his life,” Acting Director Brendan Kelly said in a release. “The men and women on patrol bravely face this risk day and night, in good weather and bad, but there is absolutely no excuse for completely avoidable conduct which puts them and others in danger.”
