DUI, Reckless Homicide Charges For Woman In Deputy's Death
A 21-year-old Markham woman has been charged in the fatal Mount Greenwood crash that killed Nick Theofanopolous.

CHICAGO – An arrest has been made in the fatal traffic crash death of a Cook County Sheriff's Office deputy who died while he was driving to work Monday morning in the city's Mount Greenwood neighborhood. Chicago police announced Wednesday charges against 21-year-old Markham resident Monzerat Perez. Perez was charged with aggravated DUI/accident/death, reckless homicide/motor vehicle and escape - felon from peace officer in connection with the death of Nick Theofanopolous, 39, of Oak Lawn.
Theofanopolous was headed northbound on Kedzie Avenue around 9 p.m. when his car collided with a Jeep headed south from 103rd Street. Photos captured from the scene indicate the crash occurred on the road in front of the Sinclair's Auto Clinic and Chicagoland Bicycle shops in the 10300 block of Kedzie.
Surveillance videos show the Jeep veering into the wrong lane closer to 104th Street just before it collided with the car driven by Theofanopolous.

Police say Perez was driving the car that struck the deputy. Perez was listed in stable condition at an area hospital and is scheduled to appear in bond court at 26th and California on Thursday.
