Durkin Wins Republican Nomination For 82nd District
Incumbent Jim Durkin will face off against Democrat Tom Chlystek in November.

Incumbent Jim Durkin has won the Republican nomination for District 82. Durkin had a total of 5,230 votes while opponent Mikey Straub received 2,313 votes. Durkin will face off against Democrat Tom Chylystek in November.
The 82nd District includes parts of Western Springs, La Grange, Willowbrook, Burr Ridge, Darien, Lemont and Homer Glen.

- Jim Durkin: 5,230 votes
- Michael "Mickey" Straub: 2,313 votes
Durkin, a Western Springs resident, is the incumbent and has served in the position since 2006. He also serves as the minority leader of the House. Durkin has been endorsed by several area mayors including Homer Glen Mayor George Yukich, Western Springs Village President Alice Gallagher, and Willowbrook Mayor Frank Trilla.
Straub has served as Mayor of Burr Ridge since 2013. According to his website, Straub was born and raised in Pennsylvania, and served as a special agent with the U.S. Department of Defense. He eventually moved to Illinois and started an insurance business, of which he serves as president and CEO. On his website, Straub shares he wants to united Republicans behind the policies and values of Ronald Reagan and Abraham Lincoln. He is in support of term limits, unlocking free-enterprise, reducing taxes and reforming pensions.
Illinois 82nd District Democratic Primary
Tom Chlystek is running unopposed in the Democratic primary. He was up against Elyse Hoffenberg, but Hoffenberg withdrew her candidacy in February. Chlystek currently serves as a Alderman for the City of Darien.
On a post on Patch, Chlystek said he is the person to bring in, as he has a successful track record and will get the job done.
"If you are tired of false promises and wasteful spending then the status quo needs to change," he wrote in a post on Patch. "I have spent my entire professional career working as an engineer solving problems."
