Lemont Board Approves $167K For Well Repairs

Repairs are still ongoing for Well No. 4, and there will be more cost for the well.

LEMONT, IL — At its Monday meeting, the Lemont Village Board authorized the Village Administrator to approve expenditures for the initial phase of repairs for Well No. 4.

Public Works Director Ralph Pukula said they wanted to close out the fiscal year with the work that has already been done.

The repairs are being performed by the Layne Christensen Company.

"They've mobilized their equipment, pulled the well, returned the well and all the parts back to the garage and inspect," Pukula said. "We knew that we needed [a] power cable."

Those items are all in the invoice, which is for $167,825.

"There will be more [cost]," Pukula said. "Obviously, we have to reinstall the well, but the motor is getting taken apart and inspected."

He said when he knows more, he will update the Board.

The well, located on Houston Street, pumps less than the larger capacity wells. The well is 1,100 feet under the surface. It has been undergoing repairs since March.

According to the Village website, the Village maintains four deep wells, one shallow well, two above ground storage tank ground level storage tank and three booster pumps as part of its water system.

Two years ago, Lemont had an issue with its Well No. 6, which caused watering restrictions throughout the summer.
