1 Critically Injured When Semi Rear-Ends Car: Police

The collision happened Monday morning near Libertyville.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL – One person is in critical condition after a semi crashed into the back of a car near Libertyville Monday morning. The collision occurred when a 2000 Mack semi-truck, which was pulling a gravel hauler, ran into the back of a 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer. The semi was headed west on Route 137 when it hit the Mitsubishi, which was stopped at the intersection of westbound Route 137 and Center Street in unincorporated Libertyville, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

When deputies arrived, they found the car with extensive damage, police said. The driver of the Mitsubishi was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in critical condition.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
