BP Busted For Selling Tobacco To Minors: Police

A clerk at the Libertyville gas station has been cited for three ordinance violations.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL – Libertyville police followed up on complaints by parents regarding their children buying tobacco from a BP gas station in town and cited a clerk at the business, authorities said. Police investigated and learned that on two separate occasions, the clerk at the store sold an alternative nicotine products called "vape" cartridges to a minor also allegedly sold chewing tobacco to an additional child, according to a Libertyville Police Department report.

During all three instances, the clerk at the BP at 113 N. Milwaukee Avenue did not ask for identification from the minor, according to police.

On Jan. 31 at 7 p.m., police charged the clerk, Jo Jo John, 47, of Mount Prospect, with three local ordinance violations for selling tobacco to a minor.

John's court date has been set for Feb. 14.
