Drunk Driver Arrested After Nearly Hitting Squad Car: Police

The Round Lake Beach man now faces charges following his Oct. 28 arrest.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL – A 37-year-old Round Lake Beach man faces charges after nearly hitting a police squad car while driving drunk, authorities said. A Libertyville Police Department officer observed the man’s car driving north on North Butterfield Road in the area of Lake Street at 3:42 a.m. on Oct. 28, allegedly veering in and out of oncoming traffic, according to a a police department report.

Authorities pulled the car over after it nearly struck a southbound squad car near North Butterfield Road and West Winchester Road, according to the police report.

Police said the driver, Eduardo Ruben Zambrano, 37, showed signs of being under the influence and was asked to perform several field sobriety tests, which he failed. Zambrano, of the 300 block of East Lane Court in Round Lake Beach, was arrested and taken to the Libertyville Police Department.

He is charged with operating with a blood concentration over the statutory limit, improper lane usage and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle.

He was released after posting his driver’s license and signing a $1,000 personal recognizance bond.

He is next expected in court on Nov. 16.
