How Long Before Village Removes Deteriorated Truss From Bridge?
The Rockland Road bridge was closed earlier this month after it was determined the steel truss over it had significant deterioration.

The Libertyville Village Board this past week approved funds to have an almost century-old steel decorative truss on the Rockland Road bridge removed. The bridge was recently closed on Feb. 1 after the Illinois Department of Transportation determined the existing steel truss system had significant levels of deterioration during an inspection.
At the village board meeting on Tuesday trustees approved a $53,800 contract, the lowest of four bidders, with National Wrecking Co. of Chicago to remove and scrap the bridge, the Daily Herald reports.
Village officials first need state approval to remove the bridge, which was actually built in 1921 over Kaskaskia River in downstate Vandalia and moved to Libertyville in 1962, according to the article. IDOT is requesting an "environmental survey request" be completed and the Illinois State Historic Preservation Office needs to review information on the truss since it was considered potentially eligible to be considered a historic landmark.
