VERNON HILLS, IL — An impressive new spraygrond is expected to open next summer in Vernon Hills.

The Vernon Hills Park District plans to replace the Lazy River at its family aquatic center at 635 N. Aspen Drive with a 7,500-square-foot sprayground, according to the Daily Herald. The Vernon Hills Park District is expected to award bids for the $3 million project this week — a move that is expected to close a $400,000 gap in the village's budget.

Park district officials say the lazy river opened in 1992 and has not been used as much as expected, according to the article. Lifeguards cost the park district about $100,000 per year and have been harder to find and closing the lazy river will also help lower the park district's utility bill.
