Lawsuit Filed Against Libertyville Car Dealership After Couple Dies of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

The suit has been filed against Ford and Lincoln motor companies and Libertyville Lincoln Sales Inc.

A lawsuit filed in Lake County blames Ford and Lincoln motor companies for not providing an automatic engine shut off that could have saved the lives of a Highland Park couple whose keyless car was left running in their garage this past summer, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Gina and Pasquale Fontanini died of carbon monoxide poisoning in June after Pasquale woke up to the sound of a carbon monoxide detector and went to the garage to turn off the couple’s 2013 Lincoln MKS, according to the article. It was too late, though, and the 79-year-old collapsed and died.

The lawsuit has also been filed against Libertyville Lincoln Sales Inc., which is where the couple bought the car in 2013. The suit claims the car was unreasonably dangerous since it could still run after the key fob had been removed. It also claims drivers were not sufficiently warned about the dangers that could pose, according to the article.
