LIBERTYVILLE, IL — A family-owned hair salon that has been a mainstay in Libertyville for more than 50 years will be shutting its doors at the end of the year.

Shear Fashion Beauty Salon, located at 212 E. Park Ave., will be closing on Dec. 31 after 53 years in Libertyville, according to a news release. Owner Nancy Grimaldi opened the salon in 1969 with her husband, Vito, after graduating at the top of her class from Ippolito School of Cosmetology.

Grimaldi, who opened the shop when she was 21 years old, will be hanging up her hair-cutting shears and plans to retire.

“I’m most proud of the fact that this career and business never felt like a job,” Grimaldi said. “My clients have meant so much to me over the years. The friendships are what made this business so meaningful.”

Over the years, Grimaldi would travel to hospitals, assisted living facilities and nursing homes to cut her customer's hair. And she aimed to bring some peace and familiarity to grieving families as the hairdresser at McMurrough Funeral Chapel in Libertyville, according to the news release.

“Businesses like Shear Fashion are the backbone of our economy, and the glue that holds communities together,” Johnson said. “Shear Fashion has remained a vital partner to the Libertyville community.”

The property at 212 E. Park Ave. will go up for sale in early 2023.
