MBX Systems Makes 'Top Workplace' List

Libertyville-based MBX Systems makes 'Top Workplace' List 2014

Libertyville-based MBX Systems, a designer and manufacturer of customized server appliances used to deploy complex business software, has been recognized in the Chicago Tribune’s Top Workplaces 2014 list of the best places to work in the Chicago region. Companies were selected based exclusively on surveys completed by employees, with MBX respondents citing factors such as a strong team culture and “the ability to make positive change daily” in giving the company high marks as an employer.

MBX has focused on engineering and manufacturing custom computer appliances since 2001, six years after it was founded as a seller of PC components. The company moved from Wauconda to its current Libertyville headquarters in 2012 to accommodate rapid growth, taking over a former Motorola building that had been vacant for nearly a year. The move quadrupled MBX’s physical space and octupled the size of its manufacturing floor, providing the space for new workstations that can handle high-volume orders more efficiently. That change alone quadrupled MBX’s build capacity from 5,000 to 20,000 systems a month per shift or more.

Previous honors have included recognition by Quality Magazine as the 2012 Quality Plant of the Year, based on MBX’s extensive quality management capabilities and an ongoing series of manufacturing innovations that have virtually eliminated system failures despite the fact that no two hardware systems manufactured in the plant are alike. The company’s continuous improvement environment – including active solicitation of employee ideas for improving manufacturing methods, productivity and profitability – has played a pivotal role in maintaining that level of quality.
