Mundelein Teen Worked All Summer To Save For Lollapalooza Ticket

MUNDELEIN, IL — A family member of a Mundelein teenager who died Sunday night after being found unresponsive at Lollapalooza this weekend in Chicago's Grant Park said the 16-year-old had been working all summer to save for his music festival ticket. WMAQ reported Evan Kitzmiller's father said his son spent his summer working at a car wash to save money for his ticket to the popular annual music event.
Kitzmiller would have been a junior at Mundelein high school, and as a music lover, was enjoying his last summer outing before school started back up, according to the news report.
Kitzmiller was found unresponsive just before 8 p.m. Sunday in the 300 block of East Randolph Street , and was pronounced dead about an hour later at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, authorities said. The cause of his death hasn't yet been revealed.

"The safety and security of festival attendees is our top priority," OEMC spokeswoman Melissa Stratton said in a statement, according to WMAQ. "We are saddened to learn that an individual transported from the event in critical condition last night due to a medical emergency has since passed away. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time." A spokeswoman for the festival also said in a statement the teen's "family and loved ones are in our thoughts during this difficult time. We have no further information at this time."

An autopsy was scheduled at the Cook County Examiner's office to determine Kitzmiller's cause of death, and detectives have launched a death investigation.
