The actor was shot while walking home from the Wilson Red Line stop in Uptown, police said.

CHICAGO, IL — Chicago-based actor Sheldon Brown was shot Sunday morning while walking home from the Wilson Red Line stop, police said. His family and friends said Brown is undergoing surgery and physical therapy at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. A successful GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help pay for the hospital bills.
Brown hasn't been able to go to work, his friends said, and lost a number of personal belongings, including his winter coat. Brown has an upcoming role as Friar Lawrence in Teatro Vista's production of Romeo and Juliet, and that's now in jeopardy, his friends posted on the GoFundMe page.
The post received more than 400 shares on Facebook, and raised nearly $20,000 as of Friday afternoon.
