BenU Names New Head Women's Soccer Coach

It is with great pleasure that Benedictine University announces the appointment of Jason Burr to the position of Head Women’s Soccer Coach.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jason to the staff,” Benedictine University Director of Athletics Mark McHorney stated. “Jason has been successful at this level previously and his wide range of experience will help to continue the growth of our program.”

Burr has spent the last four seasons as an assistant at Northern Illinois University and served as the interim coach during a search for a new head coach. The Austin Peay State University graduate, who began his coaching career in 2001, has three other NCAA Division I stops on his resume, assisting at Arkansas State, Illinois State, and Western Kentucky.

“I am very honored to be named the new Head Women’s Soccer Coach at Benedictine University,” Burr said. “From my initial conversation with Mark McHorney, and throughout the time I spent on campus, I was impressed with the vision and commitment in making this a first-class program and athletic department. There is a true sense of energy, passion and excitement at Benedictine of which I am proud join.”

Burr does own previous Head Coaching experience, serving as the head men’s and women’s coach for Thomas More College in Kentucky for three years. The women’s team reached the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time in program history under his guidance during the 2003 season. Thomas More captured the 2005 Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championship. Burr’s women’s teams at Thomas More were a combined 42-9-6.

Burr, who holds a United States Soccer Federation National ‘B’ License, played collegiately at Lindsey Wilson College and Mid-Continent University, both NAIA institutions. Burr served as team captain at Mid-Continent.

Burr takes over for Robyn Serge, who resigned in January. The Benedictine University women’s soccer team finished 7-8-2 in 2011 with a 5-6-1 mark in the Northern Athletics Conference.
