Chesterbrook Academy Preschoolers Create Valentines for Veterans

Students partnered with the National Salute to Veteran Patients Program to provide valentines to local hospitalized veterans

Pre-K students at Chesterbrook Academy Preschool in Lisle recently created valentines for local hospitalized veterans through a partnership with the National Salute to Veteran Patients Program, a weeklong effort to pay tribute to veterans. As part of the program’s “Valentine’s for Veterans” initiative, students decorated heart-shaped cards with handwritten notes thanking the veterans for their service. Once the valentines were complete, the cards were delivered to program representatives and then distributed to hospitalized veterans in Illinois. Through this initiative, students learned the importance of giving back and thanking veterans for their service.

The National Salute to Veteran Patients Program is an effort that takes place every year during the week of Feb. 14 to pay tribute and express appreciation to veterans; increase community awareness of the role of the Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers; and encourage citizens to visit hospitalized veterans and to become involved as volunteers.
