Lisle To Vote On Amendment To Eliminate Data Centers From Zoning District
The amendment would be an effective ban on data centers without a subsequent zoning amendment.
LISLE, IL — On Monday, Lisle trustees will vote on an ordinance that would eliminate data centers as a permitted use in I-1 zoning districts. The move would "effectively [prohibit] new locations in the Village without approval of a text amendment to the zoning code," according to village documents.
A public hearing on the proposed zoning amendment was held on May 20. Village documents state that "several individuals spoke to support the proposed amendment."
According to village documents, no one in attendance at the public hearing spoke out against the proposal.

Approval for the amendment was unanimously recommended by Lisle's planning and zoning commission.
The move comes after public outcry when a data center proposed to open at 711 Ogden Ave. A January public hearing fo for the proposal for the 256,000 square foot data center brought hundreds of residents out to show their opposition. The overflow led to the meeting being canceled.

The data center's developer, Cloud Centers, LLC, ultimately withdrew their application.
Lisle is among several suburban municipalities that have seen resistance to proposed data centers in the past year. In January, the Naperville City Council voted against a data center proposal.
In April, Plainfield unanimously approved a moratorium on data centers.
Residents are also currently pushing back against a data center proposal in Blue Island.
The village board meeting is scheduled for June 1 at 7 p.m.
