Wintry Weather Possible For Thanksgiving, Colder Temps Coming To IL

There's a 30 to 40 percent chance of wintry weather for Tuesday through Thursday.

ILLINOIS — While we usually sing about a "White Christmas," there is a chance that snowflakes will be falling on Thanksgiving Day on Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, there is still a lot of uncertainty in the forecast regarding two storm systems that will move across the country. If the systems merge, snowy conditions would develop across the lower Great Lakes on Wednesday through Thursday, the weather service said.

However, if the systems do not merge, then there would be little to no snow across the lower Great Lakes.

Before the possible wintry weather, Monday will have a high of 55, although there will be chances for rain or drizzle, the weather service said.

Temperatures will then turn cooler, with decreasing temps toward the end of the week. The high for Thanksgiving is 39 degrees, and the coldest day of the week on Friday has a high of 30, according to the forecast.

The weather service said there is high confidence that colder temperatures are on the way, and will take a dive this weekend and beyond, with "highs falling into the 20s and lows falling into the teens."
