Son To Join Retiring Lisle Firefighter To Work Final Shift
Fire Medic First Class Michael Egan will retire after 23 years.

LISLE, IL — Retirement days are always memorable, but for one Lisle firefighter, it's going to be an extra meaningful event. After 23 years with the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District, Fire Medic First Class Michael Egan will work his final shift...with his son, Jonathan.
Jonathan Egan spent his childhood in the Lisle-Woodridge firehouse, where his dad is known for his "compassion he shows to patients" and for being a "phenomenal asset," fire officials said in a news release.
The younger Egan lived out his dreams to follow in his father's footsteps on Sept. 10, 2018, when he was sworn in to the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District. Jonathan, who grew up with memories of watching his father in the firehouse will now be able to give his father a special memory as they work Michael's final shift together.

In a statement, Jonathan said, "A longtime dream of mine came true for I have been sworn in as a full-time Firefighter/Paramedic. I am even more blessed to have my father pin my badge at the swearing-in ceremony. It’s surreal to think that I have the opportunity to work with my father in the same top-tier fire district."
Michael's final shift won't be the first time this dynamic duo works together. The Egans once worked alongside one another to help save a man's life after the semi-truck he was driving flipped on I-88. The man was safely extricated from the vehicle and survived the ordeal, which took several hours to get him out safely.

On Oct. 31 at 7 a.m., the Egans will once again get ready to work side by side, for the last time before Michael's sendoff. Michael's shift will end at 7 a.m. Nov. 1 with a special flag ceremony by the Lisle-Woodridge Honor Guard at fire station 55.
Congratulations, Michael, on your retirement, and on having your son carry your legacy forward!
