Trial Starts For Man Charged With 1999 Sexual Assault of Lisle Woman
Roberto Noyola, 41, began a trial Tuesday for his alleged sexual assault of a Lisle woman in 1999. The victim has been deceased since 2014.

LISLE, IL — It's been nearly two decades in the making, but the trial has begun for a man who a Lisle woman identified as the suspect of her sexual assault in 1999. In 2014, Roberto Noyola, 41, was charged with home invasion and criminal sexual assault after forcing his way into the 63-year-old Lisle woman's apartment on February 7, 1999 and sexually assaulting her before fleeing the area.
Shortly after her sexual assault, the woman pointed out Noyola twice from a set of booking photos, according to Chicago Tribune. Noyola had already fled after the attack and eventually wound up in Texas. It was in Texas where Noyola's was arrested in 2013 and his DNA came up as a match with the DNA police had found in the woman's apartment in 1999. Noyola was extradited to DuPage County in February 2014, where he was held on $1 million bond.
The Lisle woman reportedly died months after Noyola was charged with sexual assault, according to Chicago Tribune. Daily Herald reports that Noyola is representing himself via a Spanish interpreter in the bench trial and did not choose to make an opening statement or question witnesses Tuesday. The bench trial is expected to conclude Friday.
