Forest Preserve Visitor Centers Reopening

The preserve said the Sugar Creek Administration Center will reopen June 29, while the remaining buildings will open June 30.

WILL COUNTY, IL — As the state enters phase 4 of the Restore Illinois plan, the Forest Preserve District of Will County will reopen its visitor centers as well as several other amenities. The preserve said the Sugar Creek Administration Center will reopen June 29, while the remaining buildings will open June 30.

The forest preserve said it will also reopen latrines on a rolling basis starting June 26. The latrines don't have running water or soap, so guests should bring hand sanitizer or disinfecting wipes.

  • Water fountains and hand pumps will be reopening over the coming weeks.
  • Online picnic and camping permits will be available starting June 26 for groups of 50 or less. Reservations can also be placed at the visitor centers.
  • Boat and equipment rentals at Monee Reservoir will begin June 30. Boats and all equipment will be cleaned and disinfected after each use.

The preserve has also canceled several of its larger events for 2020, including: Food Truck Fridays, Arts & Nature on the River, Hummingbird Fest and Nature Celebration and Riverview Farmstead open house.
