Kids Win Mokena Firefighter Safety Contest
Two local children won savings bonds, gift certificates and, probably the prize they're most excited about, a ride to school on a fire truck in the spring.
Ever dream of riding in a fire truck when you were a kid? (Or now, to be honest.)
For local schoolchildren Olivia Porter and Sofia Coglianese, that dream is going to come true in the spring when they get a ride to school in a fire truck.
Porter and Coglianese were the winners of the fire protection district's yearly essay and coloring contests, respectively.

In the essay contest, the children wrote on the theme "Describe How Your Family Developed Their Escape Plan."

- First runner-up: David Alexander
- Second runner-up: Connie Beebe
In the coloring contest, the children had to illustrate what to do if your clothes catch on fire. For those of us who might need a refresher, that's Stop, Drop and Roll.
