Mokena Resident Publishes Fifth Book

MOKENA, IL — Mokena resident and author Brian Swift recently published his fifth novel. "The Quadfather" was published in July and discusses building character to achieve your aspirations.
Swift was 17 the day after Christmas 1979 when he broke his neck while playing football with friends. After his injury, Swift said he found his courage and strength to recover, graduate from high school, earn his college degree, and earn his Juris Doctor degree as a quadriplegic.
Swift said he developed his strategy of success called CIA, which means commitment, integrity and attitude.

"I spent 40 years empowering others to get past your own limiting beliefs and challenge your thinking, giving you a different perspective on life," Swift said.
He said that in "The Quadfather," he shares thought processes "on how to tap into courage, strength, passion and confidence to overcome any challenge, obstacle, and unexpected change that life throws at you."

The Mokena resident also spends time giving back. Swift and his wife Monica started Swift Outdoor Accessible Recreation which is a nonprofit that helps people with disabilities participate in outdoor recreational activities.
Swift said the nonprofit provides equipment and outdoor accessible recreational opportunities for "physically challenged people and families in need with a key focus of improving the lives of those with spinal cord injuries."
"We will motivate, inspire and create opportunities for people with disabilities who are emotionally, physically and therapeutically in need," Swift said.
