Supporters say the cameras help solve crimes, while opponents warn about privacy, surveillance abuse, and the need for stronger oversight and audits of how the data is used.

Thousands in Northwest Indiana Still Without Power as Storm Recovery Stretches Into a Second Week – [your]NEWS (yournews.com) — An EF-1 tornado tracked from Mokena to Tinley Park as part of the powerful derecho that devastated parts of northeastern Illinois and northwest Indiana, leaving thousands still without power more than a week later. While the worst outages are in Indiana communities like Griffith and Munster, Mokena residents should be aware of the confirmed tornado path, widespread damage, and the state disaster proclamation covering Will County.

Joliet Drunk Pees His Pants After 7th DUI, 2 Open Brandy Bottles Inside Truck: Illinois State Police (patch.com) — A Joliet man with multiple prior DUIs was arrested while driving on I-80 in the Mokena area, where state police say he showed clear signs of intoxication and had open brandy bottles in his truck. A Will County judge has ordered him held without pretrial release under Illinois' SAFE-T Act, citing the ongoing danger his alleged repeat drunk driving poses to the community.
   

4. Suburban man found with Molotov cocktails released on electronic monitoring by judge (cbsnews.com) — Mokena police recently detained a man found with Molotov cocktails before he was released on electronic monitoring, despite prior threats involving an Orland Park mosque. A state representative for the Mokena area is sharply criticizing the judge's decision and calling for tougher detention rules and changes to Illinois' electronic monitoring and SAFE-T Act policies.
